Our 14 days birding in Uganda safari is perfectly structured to offer you the bird-watching experience in Uganda experience in some of the finest Uganda’s birding spots. You also have a chance of undertaking a gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi National Park, other things to experience include several wildlife species and the stunning sceneries of Uganda’s landscapes. We shall explore Mabamba Swamp which is one of the best places to catch the prehistoric rare Shoebill,Murchison falls National Park a beautiful savannah park with more than 650 bird species, Kibale National Park is a rainy forest and a home to over 1500 Chimpanzees, plus 9 different species of Monkeys- red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies. Birding in Kibale fores for the Green breated Pitta, colored aviation creatures-butterflies various Bird species like the Native Great blue Turaco, Scaly Illadopsis, Red Chested Owlet, Seimundu’s sunbird, Chestnut Winged Starlings,we shall then to semuliki NP for its unique bird species like Akun eagles owl, Blue billed malimbe, western bronze napped pigeon, Maxwell`s black weaver, Congo serpent eagle, red-billed dwarf hornbill. Queen Elizabeth National Park, a bird watcher’s paradise with over 600 bird species accompanied by over 95 African species of mammals including the legendary tree-climbing lions, African Elephants, Cape Buffalos, Leopards, Spotted hyenas, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Monkeys, and Giant forest hogs. Next park is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park contains mountain Gorillas and 23 Albertine Rift endemics including the endangered African Green Broadbill, Key bird species include the Northern bearded scrub-robin, Red-eyed Puffback, Yellow-throated Nictor. Lake Mburo National Park a beautiful savannah park with more than 350 bird species with unique structure and every few years we get new birds from Tanzania as it shares the same ecosystem with the southern protected areas, Bearded Wood pecker, Black Collared barbet, Red faced barbet Crested barbet, Red headed weavers, cuckoo shrikes, the musical Sulphur breasted bush shrike, penduline tits.

INTINERARY DESCRIPTION

DAY 1

  • ARRIVAL AT ENTEBBE AIRPORT

 

Arrival at Entebbe Airport, we meet and greet with your tour guide and transfer to our Hotel for briefing and overnight.

DAY 2

  • MABAMBA SWAMP FOR SHOEBILL

  • TRANSFER TO MASINDI TOWN

 Mabamba Swamp shoebill We have an early morning after breakfast transfer between 6:30am – 7am, transfer by ferry / canoes to the IBA wetland swamp of Mabamba Several aquatic birds, and African marsh Harriers, key species like the lesser Jacana, Rufous bellied Heron if time allow search for the beautiful painted Pygmy goose, White backed ducks and after transfer Birding towards Masindi with a stop over at the Luwero swamp and Evening Birding in the woodland before Masindi for Bruce’s pigeon, Bronze tailed starling, White crested Turaco, Hartlaubs Marsh widow bird, Brown babblers and Purple starling

Overnight Masindi hotel.

 

DAY3

  • BIRDING TOWARDS MURCHISON FALLS NP

 

 African birding along the Royal Mile, before trying the Brown twinspot, grey headed Oliveback, Cabanis bunting to the dazzling forestry track rated as one of the premier forest birding sites in Africa; we will make an acquaintance with the first of many central African forest birds. Birding for The Top 5 of the Royal Mile like Rufous Crowned Eremomela, Ituri batis, Nahan’s francolin, Chocolate backed Kingfishers, Skulking Alethes and Illadopses singing from the undergrowth and we will work through mixed-species flocks of Spotted Greenbuls, transfer out through the grasslands trying the Namaqua dove, White rumped seed eater, towards the escarpment for the cliff chat and foxy cisticola plus the view of the blue mountains of congo, Red winged Pytillia and Brown Rumped Buntings are a focus here. DAY 4

  • BIRDING IN MURCHISON FALLS NP

  • TOP OF THE FALLS

 Birding the northern bank in the morning, if time allows continue to top of the falls, Rock Pratincole. Northern crombecs, White crested Helmet shrikes and continue out. Game drive Nile river Bank to the broad savannah for the most likelihood Big cats hunting, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffalos, plus more as the checklist of mammals reaches 76! we continue browsing the Drive circuits to the Delta point for a cocktail of Birds and mammals, Birding along the trucks yields Red necked Falcons, Shelleys Sparrow, Verreaux owl, Carmine bee Eaters, Swallow tailed bee eaters and trying the Dusky babbler, Chestnut Crowned and White browed Sparrow weavers as we try the Denhams Bustard

DAY 5

  • BIRDING TOWARDS KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

 

 After breakfast, we continue for long drive birding along the way towards Kibale National Park is a rainy forest and a home to over 1500 Chimpanzees, plus 9 different species of Monkeys- red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies. Birding in Kibale fores for the Green breated Pitta, colored aviation creatures-butterflies various Bird species like the Native Great blue Turaco, Scaly Illadopsis, Red Chested Owlet, Seimundu’s sunbird, Chestnut Winged Starlings, the superb Black bee – eater as we bird the edge of the forest.

DAY 6

  • BIRDING AS WE ASCEND TOWARDS SEMUKILI NATIONAL PARK

 

Transfer to Semuliki national park, local markets and drive further north-west wards with the Rwenzori ranges (Longest in Africa) Transfer through fort portal and arrive to the open area scanning for the Fiery breasted bush shrike, western banded snake eagles, as we sleep in the forest area of bumaga camp – Bird species like the native crested hornbill, Nkulengu rail, Yellow throated & western nicator at the camp showering us with the liquidating super call can be ticked off before going to bed. all in the environs of the forest can be viewed on a lucky day a lot of birds here too.

DAY 7

  • FULL DAY BIRDING IN SEMULIKI

 

it’s a full day experience starting early for the region endemic as possibly Ugandas` number 1 spot an IBA with most congo-forest species stretching to this furthest eastern end! The newly spotted resident on Uganda`s list Akun eagles owl, Blue billed malimbe, western bronze napped pigeon, Maxwell`s black weaver, Congo serpent eagle, red-billed dwarf hornbill, African Dwarf kingfisher, the rare Capuchin babbler, red -thighed and long-tailed hawk are some mega ticks we are hoping to grip to with the smallest relative of the woodpeckers the African piculet a great attraction for our stay.

DAY 8

  • BIRDING IN THE LAKE AREA

  • TRANSFER OUT TO QUEEN ELIZABETH

 

After breakfast we move birding toward Queen Elizabeth NP, through the crater areas with an eve targeting the boat cruise and Night jars – Joyful greenbul, Mottled and Sabine’s Spinetails, Honey guide Greenbulls, Giant kingfishers, Ross’s turaco, all in the environs of the forest can be viewed on a lucky day a lot of birds here too next to this Crater with Hanging forest vines at 3 pm ready for the Classic highlights on the 2hrs Boat cruise on the famous Kazinga channel 36kms linking Lake George – lake Edward, land and water Adapted Hippopotamuses Yawning and some slashing canines to each other and the National Geographical society Killing machine the Nile Crocodile gaping along the Bankslots of waders, Pelicans and different gulls. Overnight in Bush lodge.

 

DAY 9

  • BIRDING TOWARDS BUHOMA

 

 After very early breakfast. In Queen Elizabeth NP, park with over 500 bird species we can take Kazinga channel bridge, to try and find the Papayrus Gonolek and the African reed warbler, White winged warbler, Lesser Swamp Warbler an early game drive that exposes us to diverse animals, Birding rush towards- Bwindi,. It’s a fantastic scenery to start the day on the plains of Queen Elizabeth- as the cats, mammals move over this landscape and transfer to Buhoma if we arrive early, we try the lower altitude birds here, in the evening! Many-coloured Bush-shrike, a willards sooty boubou, White tailed anti-thrush, Grey winged robin Chat, try the Stunning Blue-Shoulderd Robin chat, Black faced rufous-warbler, Chapins flycatcher, Bar tailed trogon member of the Uganda top ten,. Overnight in Buhoma community.

 

DAY 10

  • BIRDING IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

  • GORILLA TREKKING DAY (OPTIONAL)

 If never seen mountain gorilla, here comes a chance and if back early from trekking, there lower altitude birds here as we continue our birding, trying out the rare motacila clara, Cassin grey flycatcher, Dusky blue flycatcher, try to call out the African black ducks, black faced rufous warbler, Olive sunbirds

DAY11

  • BIRDING IN RUHIJA SECTOR

 

Early morning we continue birding in bwind NP in Ruhija Sector with  Mubwindi swamp expedition, Albertin endemics day aiming to gripp on the Rwenzori batis, Dusky crimsonwing, Blue headed sunbird, Regal Sunbird, African green broadbill, Grauer’s rush warbler, Dwarf honey guide, Stripe breasted tit, Archers Robin chat,

Black billed Turaco plus White browed crombec, tullbergs woodpecker, soaring buzzards, flocks of stuhlmanns starlings with there aerial displays, This Impenetrable Forest is full flora and fauna, birds, butterfly and plant species plus mammals like the little bohms squirrel, forest hogs, forest Elephants, Statungas, Duikers super and the best of natures forest sounds. overnight Broadbil forest camp.

 

DAY 12

  • BIRDING TOWARDS LAKE BUNYONYI

 Birding towards Lake Bunyonyi as we stop along the forest in different sections for the endemics, Continue towards Muko via the lowland valley of Bwindi to bag some more birds and some swamps along the highway for the Greater Swamp warblers, papyrus canary among others.

DAY 13

  • BIRDING TOWARDS MBURO NATIONAL PARK

Mburo national park, the woodland acacia park is unique and every few years we get new birds from Tanzania as it shares the same ecosystem with the southern protected areas, Bearded Wood pecker, Black Collared barbet, Red faced barbet Crested barbet, Red headed weavers, cuckoo shrikes, the musical Sulphur breasted bush shrike, penduline tits.

DAY 14

  • TRANSFER TO ENTEBBE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR FLIGHT

 In the morning we do a safari walk in the park while birding focusing on the Acaccia, honey guides, Tabora cisticola,toward mburo NP exit gate. Transfer target Entebbe international airport for flight driving thru to masaka we swing to the kako Swamp for some aquatic birds, Snipes, black crakes, Long Toed Lapwings, flocks of cranes, weavers, teals, geese with many more in this swamp and gardens around as we continue to scan the savannah dominated with acacia upto the airport.
